The Organization and Operation of the Syracuse Center of Excellence
Organizationally, the Syracuse Center of Excellence in Environmental and Energy Systems (Syracuse CoE) is a federation of members, including industrial firms, businesses, research organizations, economic development agencies, and academic institutions.
Within the federation, the Syracuse CoE recognizes three kinds of members: partners, charter members, and collaborators.
The federation concept means that members work together to advance their common interests without compromising individual identities and autonomies.
Syracuse University leads the overall Syracuse CoE federation, and also its primary research enterprise, the Environmental Quality Systems (EQS) Strategically Targeted Academic Research (STAR) Center.
The Syracuse CoE Office for Industry Collaboration, formerly the New York Indoor Environmental Quality (NYIEQ) Center, leads corporate and commercialization programs within the Syracuse CoE.
Leaders of the Syracuse CoE, the EQS STAR Center, and the Syracuse CoE Office for Industry Collaboration work together closely through multiple joint committees and working groups that pursue collaborative initiatives and projects. For example, the three organizations join to offer an annual Syracuse CoE Symposium, which is held every October.
To ensure that activities of the Syracuse CoE and the Syracuse CoE Office for Industry Collaboration are carefully coordinated to create synergies and collaborations among the organizations' academic and industrial partners, a single group of individuals serves as both the Advisory Board for the CoE and the Board of Directors for the Syracuse CoE Office for Industry Collaboration.
